The Yellow Ribbon Program for Suicide Prevention

In the next month we will begin distributing Yellow Ribbon Cards throughout the school system. The cards will be available throughout the village in all types of businesses, churches and public offices. These cards are kept in each student's wallet to be used when they are feeling depressed and unable to cope.

It is a simple program which has a lot of responsibility. Someone can hand a card to someone as their call for help. It is the responsibility of the person who receives the card to get help for the individual. Together we will take the stigma out of the disease of depression that could result in a suicide.

The role of counselors, teachers, clergy, doctors, police, fire and EMS personnel, shop keepers, member of the community, parents or friends is to stay with the person and get help. We will be working with all members of the community to ensure "the norm" around here is that everyone is aware of the program and the importance of saving lives.
