Please Donate Bikes for Ossining Kids

The Rotary Club of Ossining and the Ossining Recreation Department, in a joint effort, is once again collecting gently used bikes from local residents and from the Community Policing Program. The Rotary Club will clean and check the bikes, before giving them to local youngsters who would not otherwise have them.

The Great Duck RaceDon't miss the Great Duck Race of Ossining: 2:00Pm on May 17th.

The race route will be from Dale Cemetery to Water St. NO DUCK WILL GET STUCK along the route. This event will be sponsored by the Rotary Club and the Rotary Interact Club, with participation from such community groups as the Boy Scouts.

We will be publishing a journal that will be distributed to the people attending the race, to the supporters, and to all local businesses. Show everyone in the community that you support the local service organization whose motto is Service Above Self. Buy a Journal Ad >

Interact member and Ossining Rotary member pitch in to erect Shelter Box tent Interact Club Raises $2,000 for Shelter Boxes

On Friday Feb 1, 2008 the Interact Club of Ossining High School presented a check to Sue and Peter Klock, representatives from ShelterBox USA for $2,000 for two ShelterBoxes. The students, Sarath Nair, Sarah Shiovitz, Kiernan Colleran, Aday Diggs, Sheldon Edwards, Regine Revilloza, Jorge Delgado from the Interact Club along with their advisor Chris Buckley met with the Klocks in room 109 (the Ossining High School museum room) and set up the tent from the Box.

The monies were collected from a fund raiser held at Ossining High School in December , The entire Interact Club participated in the fundraiser and along with their advisers Ms Buckley and Ms Love did a top notch job. Omar Herrera as the Production Director for the talent show and David Cebel putting together the silent auction for did a fantastic job on the fundraiser. This was a community project with many local groups and local restaurants and shops supporting the students.

"I went out again...into the slums of Dhaka. Although the people are extremely poor they have always been polite and quite often invited us into their homes for tea of fruit...But in the interest of finding the next child that had not been inoculated we politely refuse and move on to the next household. Today we visited almost 300 households and were able to find 28 children.

At one household we ran into a rather stern older man and he reused to allow his (I assume) grandchild to be inoculated. The volunteer and health care worker were about to give up when I offered to take a photo of the baby and then the family. He agreed and I felt that I was able to really help in this small way."

It is Rotary's goal to make polio, like smallpox, a thing of the past. To help George bring small gifts to the children he is immunizing, donations can be made at Dorsey Funeral Home, 14 Emwilton Place.
